 History and Changes.

The Morning Glory Pool is constantly changing. Early photographs show it with a beautiful blue color. However, over time, the pool has cooled a bit, allowing different bacteria to thrive, resulting in the orange, yellow, and green hues seen today. “The changing colors of the incredible Pool are a fascinating example of how microbial life can alter a natural landscape,” says Dr. Laura Martin, a microbial ecologist.

Size and Temperature.

The size of the Morning Glory Pool also fluctuates. Rangers have measured it to be anywhere between 6 to 9 meters (20 to 30 feet) in diameter. The center of the pool is the hottest part, reaching temperatures of around 160°F (71°C). Geologist Dr. James Baker notes, “The temperature variations and the microbial diversity in the pool make it a unique natural laboratory for studying extremophiles.”

The vibrant colors and amazing design of the Pool have attracted visitors from around the world. However, it’s important to stay on the designated trails when viewing the pool, as the area is fragile and has scalding hot grounds. “Preserving the delicate balance of this geothermal feature is crucial,” says park ranger Sarah Thompson. “Visitors should respect the guidelines to ensure the pool remains a natural wonder for future generations.”
