Located five meters below the Indian Ocean’s surface, Ithaa Undersea Restaurant is the world’s first all-glass underwater dining venue. It sits in the clear waters of the Maldives, offering guests a rare opportunity to combine fine dining with a fully submerged ocean view.
This isn’t just dinner with a view. It’s a 180-degree panorama of vibrant coral reefs, tropical fish, and the occasional reef shark gliding past your table. The transparent acrylic walls make it feel like you’re eating inside an aquarium, only the ocean is real.
“It’s like floating in another world,” said one diner after visiting. “You forget you’re in a restaurant — it’s more like a dream you never want to wake up from.”
Opened in 2005 and part of the Conrad Maldives Rangali Island resort, Ithaa serves a blend of European cuisine and Maldivian flavors in multi-course tasting menus. Seating just 14 guests at a time, the exclusivity adds to the magic and the price tag.
The restaurant is built to withstand ocean conditions, but the Maldives’ fragile coral ecosystem means its lifespan may be limited. Experts note that environmental changes in the region could affect the structure over time, making Ithaa both a unique dining experience and a rare piece of marine architecture.
