In Alcalá de Guadaíra, Sevilla, a striking family home designed by Alejandro Martin Torrente Architects shows just how far creativity with shipping containers can go. What began with a set of containers purchased before the design even started became the foundation for a bold and modern project.

A Home Made of Containers

The house makes use of six containers, carefully arranged to create a spacious layout. Inside, there are three large bedrooms, a generous master suite, and an open-plan living area that blends kitchen, dining, and lounge into one fluid space.

Dramatic Design Features

One of the home’s most eye-catching elements is a 5-meter cantilever that projects over the swimming pool. It not only provides shade but also adds a striking architectural statement that gives the home its unique character.

More Than Just a House

Beyond the main structure, a seventh container serves as a separate apartment or pool house — perfect for guests or extra living space. To ensure comfort and efficiency, the exterior is clad in reinforced cement panels, forming a ventilated façade for better insulation. Adding a touch of originality, one of the container’s original doors has been repurposed as the main entrance.

Innovation Meets Comfort

This project proves that shipping containers can be more than just industrial boxes — they can be reimagined into stylish, high-performing homes that don’t compromise on comfort or design.
