Bird-Friendly Roof Tiles from Turkey

-

A Turkish company named Hitit Terra has developed a unique solution for providing shelter to birds in urban areas: roof tiles that double as birdhouses. This innovative approach offers a sustainable and aesthetically pleasing way to support the local bird population.

The birdhouse tiles are designed to blend seamlessly with traditional roofing materials, ensuring a harmonious appearance. They feature cavities that provide a safe and comfortable nesting place for birds. “This design is a brilliant example of how we can integrate ecological solutions into urban environments,” says Dr. Aylin Yılmaz, an urban wildlife expert. “It combines functionality with aesthetics, making it easier for city dwellers to support local wildlife.”

Made from high-quality terracotta, the tiles ensure durability and longevity. “Terracotta is an excellent choice for these tiles due to its strength and weather resistance,” explains architect Mehmet Karaca. “Not only do these tiles provide essential shelter for birds, but they also enhance the building’s character by adding a natural touch.”

This innovative solution not only aids in bird conservation but also enhances the architectural appeal of buildings, bridging the gap between urban development and nature.
